If you are on Instagram and Twitter you have probably seen people talking about the latest craze of ‘teatox’. I wasn’t entirley sure what a teatox was but when I was approached and asked if I would like to try one out, I thought I would give it a whirl.
I was sent a two week slimming solutions teatox. This consists of a morning blend (one per day) and an evening blend (one every other day). A teatox, according to the slimming solutions site is a detox using tea. The two blends are supposed to help the body get rid of toxins. The end result being that your body is ‘detoxifies’ and cravings reduced.
I don’t mind drinking herbal teas, and I quite like them as a bit of a change to normal tea and coffee. The morning blend is quite mild. It does give advice that it can be flavoured with honey or a slice of lemon but I found that it was quite nice on it’s own. It doesn’t have any particularly strong taste to it, just rather a mild herbal tea and it was easy enough to fit this into my morning routine. I simply substituted my morning coffee for the teatox drink.
The evening one had a much stronger smell but again it was fairly mild – surprisingly so given how strong it smells. I found this much harder to remember to drink as it is to be taken every other night. I generally don’t drink much after I’ve had my evening meal so remembering to have this was actually harder than it sounds! I think this one has a licorice base to it as I know some people who have tried the teatox haven’t liked the evening drink but I love licorice so this wasn’t an issue for me really.
I have to say I am a bit underwhelmed by the teatox and not really sure what I can say about it. I didn’t notice any change to cravings or an increase in energy etc and other than it being a nice herbal tea, I’m not convinced it has done much for me. The teatox comes with a ‘clean eating’ plan (which is accessed online) and I am sure that if I had followed that then I would have felt better etc (and no doubt lost weight) by virtue of the fact that all processed foods are removed from your diet.
I guess for some people a teatox will work in terms of helping to change habits but I think it is quite an expensive thing to do. It is on offer this month at £19.99 for a 14 day pack. I think that the teatox is just the latest phase of health and diet based stuff. For me, ultimately, there is little substitute for a good diet and moderate exercise.
