When we went to Bluestone a few weeks ago we were very lucky to be able to take with us a rather wonderful selection of the latest releases from Buster (the team there really do spoil the children and I!)
The Puzzle Activity Book is the first that i looked at. It is absolutely packed page to page with lots of things to do. spot the differences, dot to dots, matching activities and tons more. The drawings are all really lovely and there is lots to colour in too. The RRP for this is just £5 and I think that is a really good price, when you consider the cost of a magazine etc.
It is a good thick and sturdy book and perfect for popping in the bag for taking away on holiday or a long journey. It will be the sort of book we will have to hand when we head away on future holidays as there is plenty to keep both Daniel and Emma (and even me!) entertained. Daniel is a little young for many of the activities in this book but we have looked at some of the spot the differences and used the mazes for early pencil control.
The Pirate Colouring Book is possibly a new favourite here – it is such a fab book with lots of different things to spot and colour in. It has some elements already coloured in which is good as it keeps the book bright and engaging for younger children like Daniel. We used this book when we headed out for a bite to eat to keep Daniel entertained. I am a really big fan of the Buster colouring books as the pictures are so wonderfully engaging for Daniel and Emma and I can use them to help promote early language development and imagination skills. The RRP is £5 and I think that is more than worth it.
Daniel has a book called Goodnight Pirate so this was a nice activity book to use alongside that.
The Dinosaur Colouring Book is brilliant! I’m all for educational input that is fun and engaging for children and this book is great for dinosaurs. There are lots of little facts and figures dotted around the pages and the names of the dinosaurs as well as the phonetic names too. We have had a colour in of this book and I can see us using this time and time again in the future as Daniel and Emma love playing with their dinosaur toys and this will be a lovely natural step into learning more about them in the future.
Like all the Buster activity books I have come across this is well made with good quality paper. It is priced at £5 and there is a wealth of information in here that will keep young and old entertained for hours. The pictures are set in scenes and grouped appropriately, for example water based etc. It really is a great book and it is the sort of book I would have loved as a child during my dinosaur mad phase.
The Amazing Creative Colouring Book is right up my street – and this is one that will be reserved for me. It is full of repeating geometric patterns and motifs which is that sort of thing I love to colour in. I find it really therapeutic to colour in things like this – I guess it’s something about liking order and neatness! Earlier in the week my two nieces came up for the day and after a walk around the local lake we came home and got this, The Tracing Paper Colouring Book and the Fashion Through Time Colouring Book out in the garden. My younger niece went straight for the Amazing creative colouring book, and the older one to the fashion one. They really enjoyed sitting colouring in, and Emma helped too!
The fashion through time book isn’t really one that will interest me but I can see there is a lot of applications for this book and would be good to prompt discussions about why certain ages wore the clothes they did.
The tracing paper book is a really interesting idea, and contains lots of different types of drawings, some patterns, some images and a good number of pages of tracing paper. Some of the tracing paper has outline images on for you to colour or doodle on and others are plain. My younger niece was really intrigued by this book as am I. It’s a really nice idea and the effect of colouring in tracing paper is different to normal paper. I have ideas to use some of the blank pages to create sun catchers / stained glass effect crafts at some point soon.
