Pregnancy Update – the end is in sight

3rd June 2016      Sarah Burns      4 Comments

I am now at the stage where if our fifth family member decides to appear I’d be far enough along to be considered full term. I am becoming increasingly impatient to meet our new addition. I feel ready to have this baby now, in a way perhaps I never did the previous two times. It is certainly a very different feeling this time around.

I picked up the birth pool earlier in the week and the liner and kit to fill the pool with have also arrived. Damian has tested putting the pool up (which only took ten ish mins). It is big – I hadn’t quite appreciated how large it is. I just hope I get to use it now – time will tell of course. For now it is packed up again waiting to be put to use….

Collected this this evening

A post shared by Sarah (@mssburns) on Jun 1, 2016 at 12:30pm PDT

I’m increasingly uncomfortable at night in bed – my hips and pelvis ache with the weight when I am lay down, but I am trying to stay active in the daytime and change my position a few times in the night. Thankfully Mr D and Miss E seem to be over their bouts of illness that they have both been struggling with in recent weeks, and we are preparing them for their sibling’s arrival with lots of reference to the baby. I don’t think their illnesses have helped me feel rested.

My last midwife appointment last week was straight forward and I picked up the bag of homebirth stuff – I think it is mostly gloves and the such. It is safely in our room next to the other bags with clothes etc in. I’m next at the midwife towards the end of next week and I hope that will be the final time I see her – I’d quite like the baby to arrive by the end of next week. I don’t want to have to think about induction plans.

Of course, there is no way to predict when he or she will arrive. There hasn’t been anything to indicate that it might be imminent, other than my own impatience. Each ache and pain I feel I am looking at as a sign that things might be moving. I did wake up in the middle of the night earlier in the week worrying about the lack of bread in the house and fresh fruit juices – like the midwives would judge me for my lack of toastable bread!

Damian has commented that I am increasingly grumpy in an evening and did note over the weekend that I was looking pretty fed up – I think this was a culmination of a LOT of sleepless nights with Mr D who was not well at all coupled with Miss E suddenly starting to be sick too. We have since got Mr D a gro-clock (of which I will write more in the future) and it has had a HUGE impact. He now sleeps until at least 7am which, as well as giving us all a little more time in bed (he was coming into our room around 6am most mornings) he is much easier to engage in activities as he isn’t exhausted and is less prone to meltdowns. Whether his interest and excitement in the gro-clock continues remains to be seen, but for now, at least, we are enjoying the extra time in bed!

Everything else is ready for the baby. Nappies, clothes, wipes etc. I have washed my post pregnancy jeans and have a couple of tops ready. I will probably try and pick up some more loose fitting t-shirts when I get chance to this weekend. I have washed the snugi and moby wraps and have a woven wrap too that I can’t wait to try. I also have a Rockin’ Baby ring sling that I am looking forward to getting to grips with once the baby is here. I have had a quick practice with Miss E and I’m sure with a newborn it will be a little easier to manage.

It’s now just a waiting game… and I’m not the most patient person in the world so I am hoping that this little baby puts in an appearance sooner rather than later!

I’m 39 weeks tomorrow so can completly relate to everything you’ve written (except the sick children thankfully). Fingers crossed both our babies come sooner rather than later.
