Having a new baby arrive is a big change in routine for anyone, let alone small children. It is hard for Mr D and Miss E to understand why our usual routines are a bit mixed up, and why they have to share me with their younger brother.
The team at Flying Eye Books sent us a copy of their new title, Marcel. The story follows Marcel who is living life in New York with his owner. Marcel is happy… until they find themselves spending more and more time with a new person in a different part of New York.
True to form with all Flying Eye Books this is a super stylish and amazingly illustrated book. Eda Akaltun has created a cute lovable character in Marcel and her style of illustration is fantastic. The story is great as a stand alone story but also great for those children who are experiencing changes to their family structures and dynamic.
Mr D in particular likes this book and we read it a couple of days ago whilst everyone else in the house snoozed. There’s so much to spot in each picture and he, of course, adores Marcel – with a request for us to make our own Marcel, following I think the success of our last book based crafting. Maybe I’ll try to think of something for us to do!
I really liked the conclusion of Marcel. Despite change often being scary and uncertain it can also be a positive and a good thing, as Marcel happily discovers.
