Calm, Colour, Create Magazine – Review & Giveaway

Regular readers will know I am a fan of the grown up colouring that is taking the country by storm at the moment. I was recently sent a copy of a new magazine from Redan Publishing that will help people to access the latest craze.

I was initially a bit unsure how this would translate to a magazine, the books are often on offer in supermarkets and the such but when it arrived I was really pleasantly surprise. Firstly, there isn’t the bulk and heaviness that you get with books and secondly it looked like the perfect thing for traveling on a train.

Before I finished work it wasn’t uncommon for me to take train journeys lasting upwards of an hour. I would prepare for the meeting I was attending on the way there, and on the way back I would generally read a magazine. I think these colouring magazines are perfect for passing that time traveling and certainly do help you to relax. It would also be perfect to share with a friend too. I liked that each double page spread had space for colouring on one side and for doodling on the other – perfect to satisfy everyone.

Each issue is themed, so the first issue is ‘the ocean’ so the patterns features ocean creatures, fish, star fish, sea snails etc. It’s really lovely. The second issue (available from 27th August) is florals so plenty of pretty patterns in there I am sure.

I prefer to colour in using felt pens – I prefer the definition that they give. The ones I used did bleed through slightly onto the page behind, but not enough that it would stop me completing the page. I really liked the tangles and mandala patterns that the magazine includes – something very therapeutic about them.

This magazine will be one that I have to hand on those rare occasions I find myself child free and enjoying a coffee (it doesn’t happen often!) and it would be lovely to sit in the garden working on, if we ever get some summer weather.

I’m quite impressed with this magazine and look forward to seeing the other themes. I hope there is an animal themed one in the pipeline as I love those – they always look so effective when completed and framed.
