Recent Reads for a (almost) toddler

It can sometimes feel that a lot of our day-to-day activities are focussed on the older children, and in a way, I suppose that that is sort of inevitable as they are able to better articulate their wants and needs than their youngest sibling.

Mr H, however, is ever more interested in books and each day I find him surrounded by books; be it those that the older two have left out for him, or ones that he has got for himself. There are some that he seems to return to time and time again, so I thought I’d share some of his favourite recent reads.

The new set of books from Mibo have been a bit hit (with all three actually) and Mr H is certainly drawn to the lovely modern and bold images. I reviewed the first set some months ago so was thrilled when we were sent the second set. These books are simply beautiful and all very well designed. The new ones are Forest Folk, Marine Team and Sky Guys.

What I love about these books is that as well as being super stylish they are also brilliant at introducing children to animals in different environments and they’ve really engaged all three children, but especially Mr H, in different ways.

The next set of books that have been a huge hit are these fab books from Campbell. These are from the First Explorers series and are filled with little bits and pieces for small hands to push and pull around. We particularly like the Astronauts one – and Mr H has great fun playing with the space rocket in this!

There are lots of little facts on the pages, and they are a super little first intro to the world on non-fiction. The mechanisms on the books are super chunky and they have so far stood up really well to Mr H’s less than gentle treatment of them. Astronauts and My Body are the books that I have to hand to keep Mr H occupied whilst we are at groups with the older two. He seems to be really engaged with them.

Other books that he seems to be really enjoying at the moment are the classic ‘That’s not my books’ from Usborne. We have a good selection of these from the older two, mostly picked up in charity shops or when they’ve been heavily discounted in the supermarkets. Mr H enjoyed our rendition of ‘That’s not my penguin‘ this evening and last nights was ‘that’s not my owl’. Both popular choices here!

Ah, that’s so sweet. H doesn’t have many words at the moment, but I am sure he will soon start!
