Sprucing up the bathroom

Whilst I was out for lunch with some friends at the weekend, we were talking about the process of buying houses. I found the whole process tedious when we were looking and when we saw our house that we currently live in there were a few key things that made it ‘the one’ for us.

Firstly, the living room. There is a lovely big marble fireplace and we knew it would be perfect with a woodburner in. The room has a bay window and is a room we find really restful and enjoy spending time in. The garden was also another thing we liked, not too big and not too small. There are three good sized bedrooms and, finally the bathroom.

Pre children I used to always have a bath on a Sunday night. I would treat myself to nice bubble baths and would enjoy reading the papers or a novel in the bath. We had planned to do our bathroom up as it is dated and in need of a spruce up, But, Daniel arrived and with him we saw the loss of time, energy and the cash to do the bathroom exactly how we want to!

The dream would be to move things around as it feels like there is a lot of wasted space. We would want to put in a lovely roll top bath and a decent, more modern feeling sink unit. We have a separate shower cubicle and I’d want to make this more of a walk in rather than the dated shower style it is now.

However, being without a bathroom for a week or so whilst this work is done isn’t really viable at the moment. We don’t especially have the money to do this work either, when it’s done we want to do it well do we won’t want to cut any corners. So, in the meantime I’ve been adding some bits and pieces to it to make it feel a bit more like our bathroom, rather than one we simply inherited.

We changed the colour (it was a funny peach colour initially) and I bought co-ordinating towels, although Damian still insists on using the purple towels we bought years and years ago! We added two glass shelves for our my toiletries and I like to have a vase of flowers on the windowsill (when I remember to buy some!) A big bouquet of roses or tulips always look lovely in this room and really do brighten it up.

More recently we have a mirror from Lumino Mirrors to put up. I can’t wait to get this up on the wall as it is a bit of a change from the plain boring mirror that was there when we moved in. It also looks like it will fit really well and it can be hung portrait or landscape. The image below shows the fitting, the nails go into the wall and the mirror slots in easily with the fittings shown – super easy!

There are five small LED lights along both the longer sides and these are bright when turned on – I’ve not been able to get a decent photograph of them due to the lighter evenings but they will be great for those winter mornings when I’m trying to apply a bit of make up! Seeing what I am doing will help!

It’s a fab little mirror and I can see Emma wanting this in future years in her room – it would be perfect for a dressing table.

We might not yet have the ‘dream’ bathroom, but this little additions we have made have made it feel a bit more like ours.

Do you have your dream bathroom? if not, what would you want to change?

I was sent the above mirror in exchange for this post. Lumino mirrors are available online, at House of Fraser and Homebase.
