Local Usborne Books Sellers (& Giveaway)

Local Usborne Books Sellers (& Giveaway)

I’ve mentioned in a couple of posts that I’ve discovered a local Usborne Books Seller and I’ve picked up a couple of lovely books from her.

I love the fact that by setting up as an independent Usborne Books Seller she is able to earn a bit of money around looking after her young son. It’s also a big plus that the books are brilliant. I can’t think that there are too many children who don’t own a book published by Usborne. We are huge fans of the ‘That’s not my…’ series of books as well as the new ‘Look inside…’ series.

My local seller, Clare, asked me if I would take a look at a couple of books for her and also host a giveaway. I’m a bit reluctant to actually give these books away as they are gorgeous!

The two I was asked to look at are Peep Inside the Castle and the Big Book of Colours.

Peep inside the Castle is fab – and I’m now after all the rest of this series of books as it is just brilliant. The book takes you through a castle and lets the reader explore all sorts of things. Mine and Mr. D’s favourite bit was dressing the Knight – a really inspired way to help small children understand just how much they wore.

The book is packed with all sorts of little details and we spent ages looking through this. We enjoyed it so much that I’m now planning to take them both to a Castle when Damian is next off work so we can explore a real one and follow up again with this book.

There is a vine here to give some idea of the book but is honestly doesn’t do it justice. It is just brilliant. I’ve already added four more from this series onto the birthday/Christmas wish list as this is such a great book.

The second book, The Big Book of Colours is probably the most comprehensive colour book I have come across so far. It is a big sturdy book that takes you from basic colours all the way up to mixing colours. It is perfect for me as it covers both E and D and their individual stages of learning.

The vine here gives you an idea of how it is made up. The children have loved spending time looking at this. There is a lot of stuff going on in this book and I love how the pages give snippets of information about colours and their associations. Lovely for older children too to think about what colours mean to them.

So…. the lovely Clare has a lovely book bundle up for grabs… the books pictured below will go to one lucky winner.

My lil ones would absolutely love these books, my eldest loves his books, but he dose have a selection of favorites which myself or there daddy has to read EVERY bed time. (“we may find the same story every night , boring. But if the lil ones love them, then we don’t mind at all.
    And..
Although I used to be a very bad, very slow reader in which I couldn’t read to save my life and . ( getting bullied at school just because I couldn’t read) it was terrifying.
But Having children has taught me to read out loud, and to read quicker with a lot of confidence now. All of 4 years it taken to read in confidence and I absolutely love reading to my children. I even read a loud clippets of news paper to my partner now with confidence. So it’s great feeling, looking back, as to where I am now reading:-)
I’m a very happy and proud mummy 🙂

wow, what a brilliant story Amy, thanks so much for sharing. We seem to read the same books every evening but I manage to get them to alternate the daytime books a little! We seem to have so many great books though, and I can’t wait for them to discover Roald Dhal etc. Enjoy reading those books to your children xx
