Today the children and I headed over to the Lowry Outlet in Salford to have a look at the Lego brick trail.
I wasn’t expecting much to be honest, but thought it might pass an hour and I’d get to have a look in one or two shops for a couple of bits. It had the added bonus of being free too, and I know the Lowry outlet is well set up with car parking and places to eat.
I left really impressed and the children loved it too.
Mr D and Miss E haven’t yet discovered lego in any big way. We have the odd set around but I think they find it a little fiddly to do. They’ve never been too bothered with it, but they were both really taken with the things we saw today.
The trail was set up to mark the new Lego Batman film that was out at the start of the half term (depending on which part of Manchester you are in half term was last week or this week). There are around eight large lego sculptures dotted on both floors of the Lowry outlet mall and if you head to where the Cinema is you can get a trail map which pinpoints where they all are. The trail asks you to answer some simple questions about each of the statues, and when you hand it in you can then have a walk through the excellent Lego castle and sit on a throne of Lego!
I’ve included some pictures of the amazing figures. My fave was the unicorn and Miss E and Mr D liked the wizard. They were truly amazing and I wonder how long it took to put them together. The Lego castle was really well done too – very atmospheric and the shields made of lego were superb, it’s given me an idea of something to do with the children too. We liked the mini lego dragons that were guarding the castle too.
There is also a lego tombola, for £2 the children both chose a brick, Mr D won a mini figure and Miss E a small set, which we will make with her later in the week. The £2 goes to a charity which provides Lego sets to children in hospital. Well worth £2. There is also an opportunity to take part in some Lego building here, but there was quite a lot of people there already when we got there so we didn’t do that.
All in all I thought it was worth the short journey across the city and the children really enjoyed having a look at the Lego too.
The Lego Brick runs until 26th February 2017 at the Lowry Outlet Mall, Salford.

That looks brilliant.

looks well worth the visit
Sarah Doyle says
it was good – it’s not huge but enough to keep the children engaged and can always tie in with a stroll around the Quays
