A year or so ago I was sent a book called Mr Hare’s Big Secret and it’s one of those books that we loved at first sight (and read) but have continued to enjoy and fall in love with even more. It’s quite possibly my favourite book to read with the children and we have a little game when we play where they join in with the reading at key points.
It is so beautifully illustrated and I can spend so much time pouring over the llustrations. They really are truly beautiful. I was thrilled to see that Hannah Dale had a second book out, Have you Heard? and immediately requested a copy to review.
It dropped through the letter box a month or so ago but with chicken pox, and the such we haven’t had time to sit and look at it properly.
I wasn’t disappointed with this book. Have you Heard is as beautifully illustrated as Mr Hare’s Big Secret and features all those beautiful animals we met first time around. The book tells the story of the animals passing on a message…. all about Mr Fox being on the prowl. As with any whispers and rumours Mr Fox becomes fiercer and scarier as the story goes on….. but is he really so scary?
This is a lovely book to read with children in an animated way – lots of voices and actions and it has joined the book shelf as a firm favourtire here. The text is easy and enjoyable to read and the gentle rhymes are appealing to children. It also teaches an important lesson to not believe everything you are told!
Both Mr D and Miss E love this book and Miss E made the link between Have you Heard? and Mr Hare’s Big Secret – due, no doubt, to Hannah Dale’s very distinctive illustrations and I did find them snuggled up together on the sofa having a read of this together!
As well as writing and illustrating these beautuful books, Hannah has a greeting’s card compay – Wrendale Designs and there are some stunning items available. I spent far too much time having a look around the site. As well as stationery items such as pens, pencils and notebooks there are 2018 diaries (dropping plenty of hints for the desk diary already to Damian for Christmas!) and writing sets.
There is also a wonderful range of homewares including mugs (I think the duck or fox one is my fave) and aprons and oven gloves. All adorned with the cute and familiar illustrations. The cushions too are beautiful and if you’re feeling creative, you can create your own cross stitch piece, recreating the illutrations.
To celebrate the publication of this new book I am offering one reader the chance to win a copy of Have you Heard? and a stationery bundle from Wrendale Designs from the Snails & Pigtails range. Simply complete the rafflecopter below to be in with a chance of winning.
