Do you ever have those weekends when it all seems too stressful and nothing seems to go right? That was us this weekend.
Things started OK on Saturday with a trip to see Damian’s sister and her family. However as soon as we got home things went downhill. Mr H was grumbling all day – and only settled in the sling. Mr D and Miss E were just hard work – both of them were tired and Miss E has a cold.
We wrote Saturday off as a bad day and planned to head to the Blackpool Air Show today. Off we set, thinking we had left plenty of time for the 60 mile journey. However it all went downhill again when we hit some awful traffic. It was so bad that we decided to write if off as a bad job and head back home. All three children were asleep so we headed to the City Airport in Salford.
We haven’t been here before but we were really impressed. It’s only small but there was plenty of parking, lots of picnic benches as well as cafe that looked to serve lovely well priced food as well as tea, coffee and snacks.
We had our picnic then watched as the helicopters landed and took off again – they are really close to you so you get a good look at them, as well as feeling the force of the blades! It’s definitely a place to make sure you have a jacket on!
The children had a great time watching the helicopters and waving away to them. They then went onto the viewing platform in the control tower to watch and to look at the aeroplanes in the aircraft hangers. There is also a small play area with a climbing frame, slide and swings which Mr D enjoyed using (Miss E was a bit grumbly still with her cold).
We stayed for around an hour and would have stayed longer had Mr H not been hungry and Miss E less grumbly. It is definitely a place we will go to again soon and it’s worth a visit if you’re in the Manchester area. Parking and entry is free and you can read more about the City Airport Salford here. Thankfully City Airport Salford saved our less than fantastic weekend, and I think we all enjoyed our short visit there.
